What's Happening in Vancouver, BC…

Vancouver project helps fishy friends

While many may not realize it, the city's storm rain system impacts the health of local fish populations, and an August activity will help to raise awareness of this issue.

A project that includes hands-on environmental advocacy will be held at Jonathan Rogers Park in Vancouver, and it will be part of an initiative that was first started by Environment Canada back in 1991. Everyone is welcome to participate in the activity.

Those who register will be painting yellow fish next to storm drain grates to remind the public that what enters them may eventually find its way into local waterways. There will also be information distributed to the attendees about the project and why it matters. Community members can also get involved by keeping an eye out for the fish, and if they spot one, they are encouraged to take a photo and submit it so they can have their name entered into a draw for a set of themed corporate gifts.

Creating community buy in can be key to the success of an environmental service project. Materials prepared by a poster printing company can often help to build the buzz.

This chance to lend a helping hand to the fish that call Vancouver’s rivers home will be held on August 16th at 110 West 7th Avenue. The activity is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am.
