Kids in Vancouver who enjoy learning about insects, spiders and other creepy crawlies may find that Beaty Biodiversity Museum’s Exciting Entomology experience to be both educational and a whole lot of fun.
The museum has thousands of pinned and preserved insects and arachnid specimens, and even though it cannot welcome visitors in person, it has organized a variety of online activities that will explore its collections. They are geared towards youngsters from age five to 12, and both UBC families and the general public are welcome.
During Exciting Entomology, kids can view the museum’s collections, take part in an online workshop and submit their own photos that highlight their area's biodiversity. Zoom meetings led by scientists and other experts in the field will offer kids a chance to ask questions and learn more about their work, and the registrants can attend online or over the phone.
Hosting this type of event online offers institutions and not-for-profit organizations a way to meet the needs of the local area during the pandemic. Learning kits that contain promotional Pens, Brochures and other materials can be prepared for the registrants to either pick up in person or have mailed to their home address.
Beaty Biodiversity Museum will be exploring the world of insects and arachnids on June 6th. Parents are welcomed to register their child now for the activity.
