Invasive plants will soon be the stars of the show in a Vancouver make-and-take workshop.
Joshua Ralph will show how freshly harvested reed canary grass can be used to make decorative botanical papers, and it will be a hands-on activity. It will be held at the Fraser River Discovery Centre, and it has been requested that those interested sign up in advance.
Everyone will learn how to use the grass to prepare pulp that can be used to prepare handmade paper, and while they work, the participants will find out how to identify invasive plants and how they can impact local ecosystems. They may choose to make mini-sheets that are infused with yarrow seeds , and the workshop will run for two and half hours. The techniques taught can be used at home for crafting projects, and the registration fee starts at $$34.00 for a regular admission and $28.00 for seniors, students and members.
Hobby based classes can be a fun way to get one’s feet wet with a new pastime, and many communities and other not for profit groups host these activities. Print shops will be happy to take care of a variety of tasks, including preparing promotional Pens and other items to hand out.
The Fraser River Discovery Centre will show how to transform an invasive grass into pretty botanical papers on November 7th. It is for those age 16 and up.
