Vancouver class to upcycle scrap leather

The saying that one person’s trash can be another’s treasure is the inspiration behind an upcoming Vancouver class that will be working with reclaimed leather.

Museum of Vancouver has partnered with Creations by Night to host a leather upcycling workshop. Everyone will walk away with a leather-bound notebook they have crafted, and tickets start at $51.72.

The session, which is described as beginner friendly, will utilize leathers and an assortment of papers to prepare one-of-a-kind Notebooks. The materials for the project will all be supplied. There will be an assortment of colours to choose from, and various paper folding and binding techniques will be taught. While they work, the attendees will learn about how First Nations people utilized leather to prepare an assortment of items in everyday life.

One of the skills that will be shared in the session is how to safely work with leather punches and other tools. Safety waivers and other custom documents for a hands-on learning session can be prepared by Print shops.

This introduction to the art of working with upcycled leather will be running from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm on January 19th. It will be located at 1100 Chestnut Street. A ticket discount is available for teachers, seniors, students and Museum members, as well as First Nations members of the community.
