Virtual stand-up comedy to benefit New West business

A group of local stand-up comedians have been hosting online performances to raise funds for Vancouver-area small businesses, with the next beneficiary being a New West furniture store.

The project, called “Life is Still Funny” was put together by Burnaby-based stand-up comedian Ray Morrison and features talents like Erin Jeffrey, Krystyna Kozlowski, Mark Hatton and host Jennifer Lee.

The first show took place via Zoom in May, with each comedian performing from their home and proceeds going to Cozmos Café + Bistro. The upcoming event will benefit Champagne Taste Home, a consignment store featuring furniture and other home goods in New Westminster.

Unlike prior shows, this one will take place on the premises of the business, with each comedian having their own section of the shop to showcase the full run of merchandise. Four of the eight participants are from New West, making this a kind of homecoming. Comedic events like this are typically advertised through poster printing campaigns, as well as digital tools like social media and podcasts. The show will feature staged vignettes and skits in addition to traditional stand-up comedy.

The Life is Still Funny benefit show for Champagne Taste will be held via Zoom on June 12. Those interested can purchase a virtual ticket or a gift card for the store to get access to the feed.
