New Westminster is home to a new set of events that will allow kids to join the circus without running away.
The Vancouver Circus School will be running introductory classes at their home in the area, as well as in North Vancouver, throughout the rest of 2018. The classes are designed to help kids aged four and over get a feel for the fundamentals of circus training, and the various benefits it can have.
Classes will cover trampoline, juggling, aerial silk, and other circus skills. The main focus of the class is recreational, with the training looking to improve agility, fitness, and physical coordination. Attendees are encouraged to book in advance and to wear active clothing, strictly avoiding outfits with embellishments like buttons, zippers, or belts.
Children -- or adults -- who are hooked by the introductory seminar can sign up for longer-term classes like ‘Aerial Hoop & Static Trapeze’, ‘Circus Works’ and ‘Trampoline and Tumbling’. The Vancouver Circus School's classes are not aimed at professional training, but the school notes that its training could form the basis for a later pursuit of circus work or acrobatics.
While some large-scale circuses may no longer be in operation, aficionados aim to keep the old teachings alive through projects like the Circus School. These pursuits often use colourful flyer printing and banner printing to catch kids' eyes.
The Circus School runs introductory classes in New Westminster on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
