Outdoor movies to return to New West

The city of New Westminster is looking to let families enjoy a big-screen movie in a safe outdoor setting with a pair of screenings in September.

The first screening will be of classic adventure film “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, which will be followed two weeks later by a showing of the more recent animated family movie “Ferdinand”. The screenings will take place outdoors on an inflatable 16-foot screen.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets, as well as any food or refreshments they like. The films are set to begin around sundown, using the natural light of New West to create a unique cinematic experience.

The outdoor shows follow a pair of drive-in screenings, which took place this month in the City Hall parking lot. These screenings showed Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” and family classic “The Goonies”. There has been a boom in outdoor and drive-in screenings around the world in recent years, with people looking for a safe way to enjoy a night at the movies. Like the New West screenings, these events often focus on established classics, with retro movie poster printing popping up around town.

New Westminster’s Outdoor Movies will take place at Queen’s Park Stadium Field, with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade screening on September 1, and Ferdinand on September 15.
