If current plans come to fruition, New Westminster will soon have a new park made especially for off-leash dogs.
The location that is the top contender for the new recreational area is a 1,850 square meter section of Moody Park, which is located at Sixth Avenue and Eighth Street. It will be bordered by a pedestrian path and Sixth Avenue, where the path cuts through the park. It is the area that was the top choice for the 212 people who completed a council survey about the subject. It’s the largest space of the areas that were selected as possible sites.
Thought here was some concern about its location, according to Parks and Recreation community development Manager Dianne Perry, it will likely be ringed off with a wrought iron fence away from the park’s main entrance, and no trees will be lost in providing this space.
This will be the city’s eighth off-leash dog park.
A new recreational space such as this often requires that signage be placed to let users know the rules and regulations of the area. This can be especially true with an off-leash dog park, as people will need to know what behaviour is and is not acceptable. A printing company will be able to provide this signage, as well as any other printed materials that are required.
