The Hyack Festival Association will be recruiting a young woman next year for its 2013 Miss New Westminster ambassador and printing companies can help generate interest in the upcoming competitive contest.
In 1971 the Royal City Society changed its name to the New Westminster Hyack Festival Association and was formed to act as a separate entity by the City of Westminster to organize Hyack Festival Week and other community events like May Day and Honourable Anvil Battery salute to the Queen. For the past 40 years, New Westminster’s city and planning organization has been led by a voluntary board, along with a few staff.
With the help of local printers, the 2013 Miss New Westminster contest will draw applicants from all over the community. Flyer printing and poster printing throughout the city in the coming days should encourage young Canadian citizens and landed immigrants between the ages of 16 and 19 to become Hyack Festival’s next face. Once elected, finalists and the winner can expect to find their faces on poster printing throughout the city.
All participants will also have the opportunity to receive professional lessons in public speaking and formal etiquette. The winner, who will be determined at a pageant at a later date, will eventually come to represent New Westminster in events and festivals in 2013 and promote the city. Combined with strategic printing paraphernalia, the Miss New Westminster pageant will help encourage tourism and economic activity.
Applications are available from the Hyack Festival Association and through the pageant’s coordinator. The application deadline for nominees is October 19, 2012.
