September is Literacy Month in New Westminster, and a variety of events have been planned to help mark the occasion. One of the activities in the works is a book fair.
The fair will take place in the parking area adjacent to the Canada Games Pool and Centennial Community Centre. The public is invited to stop by with a donation of Books that have been used gently, or to purchase one of the many that will be available. Payment for them can be made on a by donation basis. If someone is not in a position to contribute financially, they are still invited to come by and pick up some books to enjoy.
Along with the sale, there will be an arts and crafts session where people can make their own bookmarks. There will also be face painting, music and refreshments.
The event will also provide an opportunity for those in the community to learn more about the different literacy programs and other resources that are available for them to take advantage of. A banner printing firm will be able to produce decorations for the day, as well as Brochures, Flyers and other items that may be needed.
The book fair is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 20th. According to Literacy New Westminster, which is the organization that is organizing and hosting the sale, it is hoped that it will help to raise awareness about the importance of literacy in the community.
