A resident of New Westminster recently put his own life at risk in order to save another.
Mark Turra heard shouts for help coming from a man who had somehow gotten into the cold waters of the Fraser River near Westminster Pier Park, and he jumped in to rescue him. According to police, they received a call from people in the area that a man was in trouble in the water but before they could reach him in their speedboat, Mr. Turra was already in the water providing him with assistance.
Once the officers and other first responders in the watercraft reached the two in the river, they were able to use ropes to retrieve both of them and safely take them to the shore. Mr. Tura was found to be in good condition, but the man who had ended up in the water in the first place was sent to the hospital in an ambulance for treatment and recovery. Knowing what to do to help in this type of emergency can help to save a life. A booklet printing company can create a variety of materials that can be used during classes that teach the public first aid and water rescue
According to The Record they tried to reach Mr. Turra for comment about what had happened, but he chose to keep to himself and not respond.
