New Westminster celebrates parade and street festival

The city of New Westminster is set to host the full-scale return of the Hyack Parade in conjugation with the Uptown Street Festival this May.

Known as a diverse, multicultural and inclusive parade, the Hyack Parade is a family friendly event. There are well over 100 floats slated for the parade, with entry participants coming as far as Washington State and Oregon. The event also includes mascots, dance troupes, drill teams and marching bands.

Following the parade, which is approximately an hour and a half in length, New Westminster turns Belmont Street into a street party, with festivalgoers experiencing a rich abundance of cultural entertainment and performances. This festival hosts local vendors and some food trucks, as well as community booths. Families are encouraged to enjoy the free entertainment offered at the festival.

The parade and festival comes around only once a year. Print shops can help spread the word of an event like this to the local and broader community.

The Hyack Parade and Uptown Street Festival take place on Saturday, May 28th. The parade will begin at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Sixth Street at approximately 11:00 a.m. The Uptown Street Festival begins at 11:00 a.m. and runs until 5:00 p.m. along a block of Belmont Street. This event will take place rain or shine.
