New Westminster BC Film Maker Wins Media Award

Printers and other film makers will get some inspiration from independent New Westminster, BC film maker David McDonald. Fascinated by local scenery in the 1990s, McDonald began to focus his attention on the local phenomenon of distracted driving and put together a short independent film about the potentially terrifying consequences of it, raising awareness and coming up with a brilliant idea for a short independent film. The film, entitled “If Lives Were in Your Hands” is a 1 1/2 minutes long and full of independent scenarios designed to demonstrate just how dangerous driving with a cell phone or while distracted can truly be.

The success of the film covered by newspapers and Print companies throughout BC and shot in New Westminster, BC, is now visible on YouTube and is winner of the distracted driving category of a short independent film contest sponsored by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. Two other New Westminster BC film makers did exceptionally well in the distracted driving category as well.

McDonald is an inspiration to all Print makers and aspiring artists and demonstrates how effectively Print and digital media can be used to raise social awareness about issues in the community. While doing this, he also managed to create a theme for art or Print media using that issue and bring it to life on screen or paper. Several local Print companies in the New Westminster area have been following McDonald’s work closely, and are anticipating other filmmakers coming to them as they try to emulate his success.
