An arcade and pinball machine rental company has adapted to ongoing changes in the entertainment business by launching a new type of enterprise – an arcade for private rentals in New Westminster.
Industry Arcade, which opened this fall, is located in a former warehouse space in the Braid industrial area. The arcade looks to respond to social distancing restrictions by limiting visitors to private rentals, where groups of 10 or less will book a two-hour time slot and have their run of the arcade and its machines.
Games include over 20 pinball machines, classic arcade games ranging from Ms. Pac Man to Street Fighter, and familiar midway games like Skee-Ball and bubble hockey.
The arcade is owned by married couple Amanda and Kyle Seller. Kyle has been a lifelong pinball enthusiast and founded the Vancouver Regional Pinball Association in the early 2000s. His company East Van Amusements had been leasing machines to businesses around the Vancouver metro area, but restaurants looking to create more space to meet new restrictions prompted him to create the new concept.
Arcades like these, often advertised through colourful poster printing, have experienced a boom in popularity among both nostalgic adults and kids being introduced to the games for the first time.
Industry Arcade has obtained a two-year temporary license, and is currently available for booking at its Capilano Way location.
