New West to host holiday market

The New West Farmer’s Market will be hosting its second annual holiday market this December, aiming to connect holiday shoppers with local small businesses.

The Holiday Food + Artisan Market will feature over 60 vendors offering a mixture of holiday gifts and treats. There will also be live music and food trucks at the outdoor market. The holiday event is a special edition of the usual New West Farmer’s Market, which typically includes vendors like Alyssa Dawn’s Natural Soapery, Mukasi Coffee & Co. and Golden Ears Cheesecrafters.

The market has filled six “scholarship” positions dedicated to marginalized food and craft vendors. It has explained the motivation behind this initiative as being inclusion:

“The intention of this scholarship is to provide more opportunities for vendors who face barriers in bringing their products to market in the pursuit of equity and inclusion. As a community market it is important to us that our market accurately reflects our community.”

Attendance for the market will require a donation to the New West Farmer’s Market fund. Markets such as these give independent artisans and small businesses a chance to interface directly with new customers, making long-term connections with Business Cards and promotional items.

The Holiday Food + Artisan Market will take place on the evenings of December 11 and 12 at 511 Royal Avenue, in front of New Westminster’s City Hall.
