The New Westminster Culture Crawl will be celebrating the two-decade anniversary of its first event with its 2024 instalment, highlighting local creators and cultures.
Like a bar crawl or similar event, Culture Crawl sees local galleries, venues, museums and other cultural institutions. The event will kick off with the Heart of the Crawl opening reception at The Gallery at Queen’s Park, with many of the participating artists and performers available to meet and greet. There will be dedicated after-dark parties at Arietta Art Studio and Moodswing, as well as a literary reading at Wildfires Bookshop.
Culture Crawl will also include live performances throughout the weekend, such as the Vagabond Players’ theatrical presentation of Mauritius, a talent show from Purpose Independent Secondary School, and an acapella performance by Quayside Voices.
The main attraction will be the weekend-long crawl, featuring streetside booths by artists and craftspeople of all types, as well as installations in public venues. Artists and vendors include the Amelia Douglas Gallery, Dizz McGruber, and Tracy Bijl Textiles & Design. Events like this usually feature a wide range of media, from traditional painting and drawing to sculpture and graphic design. Past editions of the Crawl have featured as many of 4,000 vendors with 150 artists across 32 venues.
The 2024 New Westminster Culture Crawl will take place across the city from October 4 to 6.
