New West event to highlight local art

The New West Cultural Crawl will return for its eighteenth edition this October, providing a walkable showcase for the city’s arts and culture.

The two-day event will highlight art studios and venues, which will be opened to pedestrians with special exhibitions and presentations. The event will take place across five New West neighbourhoods. Sapperton will feature displays at Van Dop Gallery, as well as stores like Umlaut Jewellery. Downtown New West will have almost a dozen stops, ranging from multiple artists on display at the River Market to the Anvil Centre Community Art Space, while Uptown’s The Gallery at Queen’s Park will also open up for visitors.

The West End will not be left out, with New West Artists Gallery and OUT of PLACE Studio included in the Cultural Crawl, and the Queensborough Community Centre will be home to the Artists in the Boro exhibit. There will also be public artworks in outdoor spaces.

“Art crawl” events have become popular in many cities as a way to encourage residents to engage with the artistic community, and they often use Print services to create maps of all the locations involved. The New Westminster crawl event also highlights local artists through its social media accounts.

The 2021 edition of the New West Cultural Crawl will happen on October 16 and 17 across the city of New Westminster.
