The Vancouver Chamber Music Orchestra (VCMS) will be presenting a classical concert this year, reflecting on the life and love of Robert and Clara Schumann, titled “Bizarre Love Triangle.”
The concert will be performed by the Vancouver Academy of Music (VAM) Chamber Players and will include two piano pieces, Clara’s Piano Trio in G Minor and Robert’s Piano Quintet in E-flat Major. The academy will be presenting historical information alongside the two pieces on the lives of the Schumanns, as well as their relationship with fellow great composer Johannes Brahms, which has often been described as a tragic love triangle. Brahms’ Clarinet Quartet in B Minor will also be part of the program.
The VAM Chamber Players is composed of faculty members from the academy and is renowned as one of the top chamber groups in the province. Group members include pianist Ian Parker, clarinet player AK Cooper, and cellist Joseph Elworthy. This concert is part of the VCMS’ annual series of concerts, which features five performances of chamber music pieces.
Classical concerts like this are often advertised through methods such as flyer printing and radio advertisements. Still to come this year is a “Paris in Spring” concert in April focusing on the work of French composers.
“Bizarre Love Triangle” will be performed on January 29 at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster.
