New West concert to celebrate the guitar

This January, New Westminster will play host to a touring tribute to the ever-popular guitar and its versatility as a musical instrument.

International Guitar Night will feature a quartet of performers from four different countries who each use the guitar in different ways.

Italian musician Luca Stricagnoli will return to the series with his acoustic re-inventions of rock classics using innovative instruments like a reversed triple neck guitar. Thu Le, an award-winning classical guitarist from Vietnam, will make her International Guitar Night debut. Jim “Kimo” West, known for his work with Weird “Al” Yankovic, will perform his Hawaiian-influenced guitar music. Lulo Reinhardt, the German grand-nephew of the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt, will round out the show with Latin-inspired swing music.

The New West show is part of the International Guitar Night touring festival, a showcase of guitar music now in its 22nd edition. Following a fall tour throughout Germany and the Netherlands, the show has come to North America for a series of dates in locations from Fairbanks, Alaska to Palo Alto, California, often appearing in smaller cities and towns.

Concerts such as this rely on resources like local media and poster printing to help raise awareness for the show in each market.

International Guitar Night will come to the Massey Theatre in New Westminster on the evening of January 28.
