The town of New Westminster, BC may not be France, or even Vancouver, but it is cool and cutting edge, at least according to many of its residents. Residents Neal and Melinda Michael are credited with starting a local trend of ‘PopLuck’ pot-luck brunches on Sundays and hosted their first this July.
The concept is inspired by the Al Fresco dining in Vancouver and Paris White Dinners, where attendees clad in their dinner whites bring along plastic chairs and white linens and head over to an outdoor dining venue disclosed by the inviter only hours before the event. The meals are really designed to bring people together in a cutting-edge way to show off the beauty of Westminster and build the community in the process.
The Michaels recently won an award for his idea to create pop-up luck meal that could show off some of the more exciting venues of New Westminster to strangers through food, wine, music, laughter, and good company. The idea is to relish the city in the great outdoors and make friends in the process.
Sunday afternoon PopLuck pot-luck New West has become so popular on Facebook that local printers should take note of the new dining trend. As the trend expands into various cities past New Westminster, it could even require the services of local printing companies. Services like flyer printing about upcoming events could be called upon and the resultant flyer could be distributed to local neighbors and tourist offices to reach a wide variety of audiences, perhaps even including tourists who wish to mingle with locals.
