Gogos to hold New West craft fair

The Royal City Gogos, a seniors organization dedicated to raising money for social justice, will be hosting its annual “craft crawl” a little earlier than usual this year, and with a new, geographically scattered approach.

The craft crawl will consist of four stops in the Queen’s Park area, each containing locally-produced items. The house at 117 Fifth Avenue is suggested as a starting place as it offers the Gogos’ signature tote Bags, which can be used to carry other items.

The other three stops include items like face masks, fashion accessories, and toys for both pets and kids. The items go beyond typical definitions of crafts to include preserves, spa products, and garden items. Far-sighted browsers can even get holiday decorations.

The Royal Gogos, named after the Zulu word for “grandmother”, is an organization that supports the Stephen Lewis Foundation to benefit mothers and grandmothers in Africa. All proceeds from the craft crawl will go to the Foundation. The event will add a crafty spin to the popular trend of art crawls and lawn sales, often advertised through tools like poster printing, and with Business Cards on hand for local vendors and artisans to make connections.

The Royal City Gogos’ Craft Crawl will take place on July 18 at multiple locations around the Queen’s Park neighbourhood of New Westminster.
