The 47th annual Hyack Festival is taking place next month in New Westminster. The festival kicks off on Victoria Day weekend and continues for a week.
There are set to be a variety of events during the week that are sure to appeal to the entire family. One of the major events will be the annual Hyack parade, which will be held on May 26 beginning at 11:00 AM and will begin at 6th Street and 8th Avenue. There are expected to be over 120 entries representing groups, individuals and businesses from all over the Pacific Northwest. Entry in the parade is free for organizations and individuals, and $500 for commercial businesses.
The same day as the parade, the 4th annual Uptown Street Fest will be held from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It will feature street entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, food concessions and children’s activities.
The week will finish off with the Community Heritage Picnic at the Armoury on May 27. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic basket and a new spring bonnet. This event has been taking place for 147 years.
