Family favourite musical to be staged in New West

The Royal City Musical Theatre is gearing up for its latest production this spring with its rendition of Mary Poppins: The Broadway Musical in New Westminster.

The musical tells the familiar story of a seemingly magical nanny who changes the lives of an uptight family in turn-of-the-century England. It is an adaptation of the Disney film of the same name and will feature the songs that are familiar to generations of children. The Royal City production stars local actress Meghan Gardiner in the title role, with other cast members including Darren Burkett, Kirk Smith, and Janet Gigliotti. The cast is supported by an experienced backstage crew, headed up by director and choreographer Valerie Easton, musical director Peter Abando, and stage manager Inga McLaughlin.

The show will run for 12 performances across two and a half weeks, including two previews before the official opening night, and matinee shows on each weekend. Local theatrical productions draw on community volunteers and often use poster printing and social media to help spread the word. This production of Mary Poppins is advertised with an eye to family audiences:

“Every show will be a unique and uplifting experience that you can share with your friends and family.”

The Royal City Musical Theatre production of Mary Poppins will run from April 25 to May 12, with all performances staged at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster.
