Community members to attend park project open house

Those interested in New Westminster’s plan to redevelop Sapperton Park Playground and Spray Park are invited to attend the third open house devoted to presenting its preferred plan for the site.

This will be the final public open house. The event will present the option, which was developed using input gathered from the public during the last such meeting held in December. All community members and other stakeholders are welcome to stop by, view the plans and give their feedback. Wide format printing can be for events such as this used to create large-scale artists drawings of the improvements so those who attend can get a better idea of what they will look like.

The project will involve the redevelopment of the 8,200 square meter site, which currently houses a playground and spray park, but has been deemed to be in need of replacement.

The plan will include new equipment and will also preserve the mature trees that are growing on the site. It is intended to be used by children no matter what their age or ability, and also provide places for their parents and the other community members to relax.

The city feels its plan will be the best way to create a site that will serve both the current and future needs of those who use it. The budget for the project is set at $580,000, and it is expected to be completed by the summer of 2016.

The open house is scheduled for April 6, starting at 4:00 pm in the Richard McBride School Gymnasium.
