New Westminster city council has undertaken the task of translating its materials into different languages other than English.
The council recently approved the plan to update its translation policies, and has identified the ‘Your New Westminster Guide’ as a key item to be printed in several different languages. It was chosen because it contains a lot of information that could be very useful to immigrants and refugees to the city, such as employment information, healthcare information, sections on shopping, where to get childcare, how to register new students, and banking facilities.
It was noted that other BC cities that have large numbers of immigrants have translation policies that reflect this fact. Some consistently Print all their materials in several languages, while others update theirs on a regular basis.
The expected cost for the project will be $1,500, and will be undertaken by MOSAIC and SUCCESS. The most commonly used documents will be converted both in electronic and hard copy format.
Catalog printing firms will be able to print off the new versions of the guide, as well as any other documents that are required. These can be done in several languages, based upon the demographics of the city. These can be distributed to those who need them, while the online versions can be accessed by those who prefer to use that method. Get a Free Quote for Print
