The event will feature a hockey showdown between members of the New West Police and New West Fire departments. The two-hour game will be accompanied by an emergency vehicle display and a variety of food and drink vendors for visitors to explore around the rink. During the first intermission, young players from the New West Minor Hockey Association will take to the ice. There will also be fundraisers in the form of a silent auction, a 50/50 draw, and even a duck toss.
All funds raised will go towards the KidSport New West organization, which provides bursaries to local youths to remove barriers towards their participation in recreational sports. Fundraising events like this often use tools like flyer printing or promotional give-aways to help encourage donations. KidSport New West co-chair Jen Arbo explains the group’s work:
“Last year was our busiest year yet: we funded 120 kids with approximately $41,000 worth of grants, and this event will be one of our main ways of ensuring that we can continue to support the community.”
The inaugural KidSport New West Fall Classic will take place on the afternoon of September 21 at Queen’s Park Arena.
