Printers that are concerned about the environment and desire to implement an internal eco-friendly paper policy will now have an extra incentive to do so. Printers in the Vancouver, Richmond and New Westminster areas of BC as well as Toronto and GTA based printing companies in Ontario will have the opportunity to apply for new eco-friendly printing award. Canopy, an environmental organization based in BC, will award gold, silver, most improved and conservation supporter awards to printers who have registed an eco-paper friendly policy with their organization.
Canopy is described as a non-organization dedicated to protecting the world’s forests and biodiversity and control climate change while fostering and encouraging sustainable development in businesses. The organization has been working since 1999 with both publishers and printers to conserve paper. Canopy estimates that over 18 million trees have been saved due to companies implementing eco-friendly paper policy.
Printers of any genre can apply with the organization and Canopy is committed to developing an eco-friendly policy for suppliers who do not yet have one. Canopy’s environmental survey, to be completed by registering printers on or before August 15, 2011, measures a company’s environmental implementation and award eligibility. The award issued to printers will be called the Ancient Forest Friendly Award and Print companies will be listed on Canopy’s database.
To date, more than 650 companies have developed sustainable policies in conjunction with Canopy. Publishers, magazines, newspapers and printers from New Westminster to Toronto, have supported the initiative.Get a Free Quote for Print
