It’s the most wonderful time of the year - when parents stay at home and children get to enjoy a wonderful break from school. It may seem like a challenge to keep children busy during the holidays, but there are published activities throughout New Westmisnter so children don’t lament that there is nothing to do during their enviable two weeks off.
The New Westminster public library, for example, has publicized several events during the Christmas break to keep the young ones entertained. As the oldest library in the province of BC, the New Westminster library is a public landmark and place of numerous printed and online resources for the entire community, especially young residents of the community learning to read, write and create.
Banner printing and brochure printing advertise monthly events at the library. For the month of December, festive delights and crafty creation activities have taken over. From December 20-28, there are crafts programs for children along with tye dye programs for creative tweens aged 9-12 years. Seasonal stories and drop in crafts also help younger 4-10 year olds get into the festive spirit.
The historical society on December 21st educates students about Christmas and New Years brands that early New Westminster residents bought to celebrate the holidays and educates students on brands still available today.
The New Westminster library is a fantastic place to learn about the community through local event nights and programmes. Be sure to pick up a calendar of events and read local programme advertisements at this educational and historical institution.
