Aiming to bring big brass instruments from the back of the orchestra to the front, the Plumbers Union Brass Bash concert will come to New Westminster this July for two days of music.
The festival focuses on tuba and euphonium music from players of all ages and abilities. Students are able to learn from masters of the instruments during rehearsals and clinics, while experienced artists get to show their skills and perform in front of an appreciative audience. The weekend will include with a final recital in Queens Park, which is free to attend for audience members. For musicians, the weekend also includes lunch, dinner and other social occasions. This year’s performance will be conducted by University of Victoria Professor of Music Scott MacInnes and will feature a clinic with guest artist Chris Dickey.
The Brass Bash is hosted by the Plumbers Union Brass organization and is held annually in different locations around the Pacific Northwest. This will be the second edition held in Canada, after the 2019 Bash was held in Victoria. Amateur musical events such as this are designed to help artists develop their skills and make connections, with Business Cards and social media handles often being exchanged.
The 2024 edition of the Plumbers Union Brass Bash will take place at the Massey Theatre from July 19 to 21, with the concluding concert happening at the Queens Park Bandshell on the 21st.
