New Westminster will be hosting the Performing Arts & Technology Festival this November, featuring four days of innovative and immersive artwork that intersects with modern technology.
One of the main attractions will be veteran Canadian DJ Kid Koala, who will be presenting a multi-media stage show based on his graphic novel Nufonia Must Fall. Koala will also be leading other events throughout the weekend, including a board game event, drawing studio, and Robot Dance Party for younger attendees. Animator Jeff Chiba Stearns will also be leading animation workshops aimed at children 7-12, with a goal of introducing them to technology, while composer Cameron Catalano will give a talk on writing music for film.
Saturday night will feature a special Peacha Kucha Night After Dark, where individuals gather to present on topics they’re passionate about, named after the Japanese term for “chit chat.” The Vancouver Street Dance Festival will be hosting hip-hop workshops for children and teens, as well as a Battlezone Canada Street Dance Festival. Festivals like this aim to encourage people of all ages to be more creative by featuring a diverse range of media and artistic technology, ranging from graphic design to collective dance.
The Performing Arts & Technology Festival will take place at Eighth & Eight Creative Spaces and the Massey Theatre from November 14 to 17.
