This April, Art Vancouver will look to create a giant art gallery in British Columbia’s largest city.
The festival will feature not just exhibits, but also live events such as lectures, classes, and guided tours. Applications for exhibitors are still open, with a focus on visual art, sculpture, photography and mixed media.
In the past four years, the event has hosted over 500 artists and galleries, with the end goal being:
“to bring together the global arts community in a city with young and rapidly growing creative talent.”
Art Vancouver kicks off on April 25 with an opening night premiere party, including live DJs, a runway show, and a first chance to look at the galleries. All events will take place at the Vancouver Convention Centre, but the festival hopes to draw in visitors from across the city, surrounding areas like New Westminster and Burnaby and beyond. Large events often use poster printing to draw attention, and with the artistic talent involved, eye-catching graphic design seems likely.
The event was founded in 2015 by the non-profit organisation Vancouver Visual Art Foundation. The event was the vision of curator Lisa Whorfin. The underlying philosophy is highlighted in one of the 2019 conference’s highlight panel talks, entitled “Uniting Nations Through Art.” Sponsors and media partners include Panasonic, Global TV BC, and the Green Apple Art Centre.
