The Hats off to Excellence gala of the Delta Chamber of Commerce was held on November 18 at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn. Six awards were handed out to Delta citizens and businesses who have exhibited excellence. Those in the running for the awards were nominated by the community.
The Delta Citizen of the Year award was given to Carlene Lewall who is currently a volunteer coach and administrator with Delta Gymnastics. She was also a founding member of the Delta Sports Council; she is also the chair of KidSport Delta and Operation Red Nose Delta/ Richmond.
The other awards presented were:
• The Volunteer Service Award – given to an individual who has donated a lot of time to a local organization - winner Steve Grant
• The Rising Star Award – given to a relatively new business involved in the community – winners Yvonne and David Anderson
• The Special Events and Tourism Award – given to a Delta based business in the travel or entertainment industry with an excellent marketing reputation – winner Curt Jantzen
• The Delta Rotary Business Ethics Award – given to a business that has proven
“ethics and community involvement” - winner South Shore Cycles
• The Business of the Year Award – given to a business that has had significant success in the previous year - winner West Coast Seeds
Businesses and individuals who received the Hats off to Excellence awards should be very proud of this accomplishment; they should share it with everyone they can.
