Festival to light up the night

The 5th annual Luminary Festival is taking place next month in North Delta.

There is no parking at the event but shuttle services will be provided from the Sungod Recreation Centre. There will be entertainment from acts such as Danielle ‘Nitrous Star’ who will be demonstrating the hula hoop and holding workshops, while musical acts and food vendors will ensure there is something to cater for the whole family.

There are also set to be lots of children’s activities. In past years, these have included a fairy station, arts and crafts, and stilt walkers.

The main event of the evening will be the Luminary parade. Guests are encouraged to come in costume and to bring their own lanterns. They must also light their lanterns with glow sticks, solar-powered and battery powered lights, because open flames are not allowed. The parade will begin at dusk and the musical performance will take place later.

This is a popular event in Delta and some of those planning to take part in the parade may contact local banner printing companies for items they can carry.

The Luminary Festival will be held at Sunstone Park on September 10 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Admission is free of charge. To learn more about this event and the activities that will be taking place, contact Lori Whitlum at 604-952-3127.
