The city of Delta has announced a series of events meant to highlight the holiday season and provide recreational opportunities to local families.
The biggest event will be the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, which will kick off the holiday season. In addition to the official lighting of a large holiday tree, there will be a Deck the Halls Artisan Market running throughout the day full of local vendors offering gift items, organized by Watershed Artworks. This will be followed by a free skate on the North Delta ice rink. On-stage entertainment will be offered by the Beauty Shop Dolls and an assortment of community choirs. Other family activities include marshmallow roasting, a scavenger hunt, and facepainting.
The Lighting will be followed by a public movie night, featuring a showing of the 2000s holiday favourite Elf. There will also be two Morning with Santa events in the following weeks, in the north and south ends of Delta. These events will also include public skating, family opportunities, and a chance for children to take a photo with the big guy in red. Municipalities often use tools like banner printing and social media to help advertise their festive events and other occasions.
The 2024 Delta Christmas Tree Lighting and Movie Night will take place at the North Delta Recreation Centre on November 30. The Morning with Santa events will take place at the same location on December 7 and at the South Delta Recreation Centre on December 14.
