This Thanksgiving, Delta residents will have a chance to earn their turkey dinner when they lace up their sneakers and hit the pavement for an event that will help to make sure no one in the area has to go hungry.
This year’s Surrey Turkey Trot 5K and fun run will be taking to the running paths at Bear Creek Park, and as it will be the first time the event has been held, its organizers are working hard to make it an extra special experience. A portion of the entry fees and other proceeds from the day will be passed along to the Surrey Food Bank, and the runners and walkers can make an even bigger impact by donating some nonperishable food at the event.
Those who register can choose to run or walk, and if needed, they can roll along in a wheelchair or other mobility device. All ages are welcome, and the little ones can participate in the 400-meter kids dash. Everyone who takes part will receive a finisher’s medal with a special turkey trot-themed graphic design, as well as a race bib and light refreshments, and the fee to register starts at $25.
The inaugural Surrey Turkey Trot will give area residents a chance to help their neighbours who are experiencing a difficult time. It will be held on October 14, and all support is appreciated.
