Participants pledge a donation and run a set distance across a Coquitlam trail. One, two, five and 10-kilometre distances are available. Participants can run, walk or ride their way across the distance. The route is accessible to bicycles and wheelchairs, but rollerblades should be avoided. On-leash dogs are also welcome. The run is non-competitive with a focus on personal achievement and raising money for the cause of combating cancer.
Terry Fox runs are held across Canada annually on a single date in September in memory of Fox, whose quest to run across Canada in order to raise money for cancer treatment touched many. These runs have raised over $850 million for cancer research in total. Participants can join teams and raise money alongside friends and family.
Charitable events like this often use brochure printing and create websites to help explain what contributions will work towards. Promotional material for the Terry Fox Foundation explains:
“The money you raise supports world-class cancer research through the Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI). TFRI invests your donations in the very best scientists in laboratories, clinics, and hospitals around the country.”
The 2025 Terry Fox Run in Coquitlam will take place on the morning of September 14 at Mundy Park. Registration will be open at the Field House an hour before the run start.
