Festival will release the salmon in Port Moody

The 25th annual Fingerling Festival is taking place next month. It is a fundraising event for the Port Moody Ecological Society.

Activities will be held at various locations, including the Port Moody Recreation Centre, the Noons Creek Hatchery and the Port Moody Ice Rink.

At the Ice Rink, more than 70 exhibitors will be on hand to provide information about their products and services; those confirmed include several environmental groups, health and wellness providers, and government departments.

The main event of the day will be the releasing of 40,000 fingerlings (young salmon). It will be given a First Nations blessing. Other activities are set to include raffles for items donated by vendors, a hot dog barbecue, and special guests. Last year’s event featured popular children's characters Bobs and Lolo.

Organizers are still looking for volunteers to run several activities and booths at the festival, and there is also room for more vendors.

Families from all over the area, including nearby Coquitlam, will likely attend this festival, which is expected to draw 5,000 visitors. Local flyer printing companies may be asked to provide advertising products to be distributed.
