One of Coquitlam’s newest culinary events will be back for a third edition as the BC Dumpling Festival aims to treat the tastebuds of visitors.
The festival brings together food trucks and vendors with a focus on the traditional dumpling and the many Asian cultures in which it is found. There will also be non-food vendors and work by local artists throughout the festival grounds. Stage performers will highlight different styles of music and dance from across Asia. There will also be an official dumpling eating contest following the festival’s opening ceremonies. Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to donate to support the hosting of future events.
Confirmed food vendors include Chef Tony Dim Sum, Nina’s Pierogies, and Sherbat Drinks from the East, while the East Asian Arts and Culture Society, artist Melissa Peacock, and Canadian Blood Services are among the other exhibitors. Festivals such as this often use eye-catching Logo Design to help draw attention, and the Dumpling Festival does this through its mascot Jia, which will now be available in the form of a physical “squishie.” The festival was founded following the COVID-19 pandemic as an effort to promote a positive image of Asian-Canadians.
The 2024 BC Dumpling Festival will take place on August 11 at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam. Due to limited parking, attendees are encouraged to travel by public transit or cycling.
