What's Happening in Coquitlam, BC…

Coquitlam will be hosting two days of improvised comedy this August, as the Summer Comedy Weekend looks bring some levity to the dog days of summer.

The weekend will feature a pair of events. First, The Comedy Department will host their improvised game show Pants on Fire, described as a combination of The Liars Club and Whose Line Is It Anyway. An audience member or special guest will be invited to provide statements, and the performers will have to discern truths from lies. The comedians will also aim to turn the guest’s stories, true or false, into comedy sketches and jokes. The Comedy Department is a project of comedians Denise Jones and David Milchard and has hosted numerous events in the Metro Vancouver area and across North America.

The following day, comedy troupe The Improvisers will take to the stage, featuring performers Chris Cassilan, Roman Danylo, Ellie Harvey, and Pearce Visser, all of whom have extensive experience on stage and television. The group will be performing an original show created on the spot with suggestions from the audience. Comedy events like this often use methods like flyer printing and podcast appearances to help raise awareness of the show, and sometimes linked together in weekends or festivals like this.

Both Summer Comedy Weekend events will take place at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam, with Pants on Fire on August 22 and The Improvisers on the 23rd.
