Coquitlam to host Remembrance Day Ceremony

Every year the city of Coquitlam presents its Remembrance Day ceremony close to Blue Mountain Park, and this year is no exception.

Most years, there is a very large crowd to pay respects to the wounded and fallen veterans. Most patrons to the ceremony gather along Veteran’s Way, which is right in front of the park, before the parade commences. Community gatherings like this one are important and Print shops can help let the local community know when a communal gathering is taking place.

In past years, over 1,000 people have attended the Remembrance Day ceremony. Often, there are military vehicles on display for attendees to view. The parade is not long in duration and begins at Como Lake School where cadets, veterans and community police all participate in the parade. Grandchildren, as well as great grandchildren of veterans, are also encouraged to walk in the parade. There is also a marching band for onlookers to see during this solemn ceremony.

Once the parade is complete, the formal Remembrance Day ceremony commences. Usually, the ceremony begins with the singing of the Canadian national anthem, followed by the laying of the wreaths, before a prayer is recited.

Typically, after the ceremony, there is a lunch at the Legion on Ridgeway Avenue. In the past, the Simon Fraser University Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band has played, as well as the Naval Veterans Band.

The Remembrance Day Ceremony will take place on November 11th, close to Blue Mountain Park.
