The week will begin with a scavenger hunt around the city, with participants challenged to take “selfies” around the city and discover little-known parts of Coquiltam. The first day will also include a free barbecue at the Pinetree Community Centre .Youth aged 11-18 can also register for a three-on-three basketball tournament hosted at Town Centre Park. Other free programs include creating an art journal, cooking lessons, and even a K-Pop Dance Party. The province describes the goals of the week as:
“To highlight the interests, accomplishments, and diversity of youth across the province.”
Organizations around Coquitlam will also be hosting drop-in programs for youth throughout the week. These include Youth Hip-Hop at Dogwood Pavilion, a Carnival Youth Night at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex, and Youth Volleyball at Centennial Activity Centre. BC Youth Week is recognized by municipalities across the province in their own way, and also includes province-wide initiatives like a Student Safety Video Contest. Community events like this often use tools like flyer printing and social media to attract attendees as well as volunteers.
Coquitlam’s 2024 BC Youth Week events will take place around the city from May 1 to 7. All events are free to attend, but some require advance registration.
