The re-branding was announced as a way to highlight the festival’s diverse food items and the role of food and drink in bringing people together. The festival is presented by the Low Entropy Foundation, which aims to promote cultural communication in the Coquitlam area. Food trucks and tents will be selected from a series of online applications, with promotional material stressing the diversity of items on offer:
“Prepare for an unforgettable experience, featuring our signature array of captivating multicultural performances, while embarking on a global gastronomic journey! From tantalizing street delicacies, to local favourites, there’s a flavour sensation awaiting every palate!”
Despite the name change, the Festival will still include a number of cultural performances representing diverse traditions and styles. Confirmed performers include Indigenous hoop dancer Jane Wylie, the Filipiniana Dance Group, and Damasco Sound System. The “Welcome to Canada” group will present cultural clothing from across Asia as well as different styles of dance and song. There will also be a marketplace full of non-food vendors as well as non-profit organizations looking to provide information. Festivals such as this often use banner printing and other tools to create an inviting environment for all who visit.
The inaugural World Wide Food Festival will take place in Coquitlam at the Town Centre Park on July 6.
