This June will see the return of ScotFest BC to Coquitlam, celebrating traditional Celtic music, drink, food and much more.
The weekend-long event kicks off with the “Pipes in the Park” free concert, featuring some of the best traditional pipe bands from across the province, including the SFU Pipe Band Drum Corps and the 78th Fraser Highlanders. The music will continue into the night with a Heritage Stage concert, including an Open Piobaireachd concert for local pipers to test out their skills and a Big Tent full of different kinds of Celtic music. The festival grounds will also include a whisky tent with a “Whisky & Oysters” special dinner. This is the 92nd annual edition of the event, also known as the British Columbia Highland Games.
The second day of the festival will include a full day of musical competition as well as highland dancing and the Scottish Heavy Events, a series of traditional strength-based sports including hammer throw, caber toss, and shotput. There will also be activities for kids to try traditional Celtic instruments and games. The festival will conclude with a performance from renowned fiddler Ashley MacIsaac. Cultural events such as this often use tools such as poster printing and local media advertising to reach a wider audience.
The 2024 ScotsFest will take place on June 14 and 15 at the Town Centre Park in Coquitlam.
