Cycling is an activity that can be enjoyed by almost any age, and Coquitlam River Elementary students will be participating in an event that will teach them how to be good cycling citizens.
This three-day event will help the kids who participate to get on the road safely, and it will be included as part of the physical education curriculum. The learners will receive at least three 45-minute long training sessions, and these will cover an assortment of topics.
This program, which targets children who are in grades four, five and six, has been recognized by the BC Minister of Education, and while it is intended for kids who are already riding, those who have never been on a bike before can still take part. They will receive individual instruction to help them get started, and once they are ready, they can join the larger group.
One of the goals of a physical education program like this is to help students develop an interest in outdoor activities and a healthy lifestyle. T-Shirts, award certificates and other customized items can be prepped by a local printing services company to hand out to the learners at the conclusion of the program.
The iRide School is scheduled to be held at Coquitlam Elementary starting on June 1st. Anyone with questions has been asked to call 604-942-0241.
