The show will present classic theme songs, commercial jingles and other music from the history of television. The music will be in a new light played by the Wind Ensemble, which contains a range of classical instruments played by mouth, ranging from flutes and clarinets to large brass instruments such as tubas and trombones, sometimes with additional percussion.
The ensemble has promised to only select the best music from the medium in its advertising material:
“The history of ‘the vast wasteland’ is alive with energetic rhythms, catchy tunes, the occasional evocative or poignant melody and, of course, Bags full of gawd-awful (and sometimes difficult to comprehend) lyrics…but we won’t be doing any of those. Expect earworms!”
The concert will be part of the ensemble’s 2022-23 season, with all concerts taking place in Coquitlam. The group will conclude its season on June 10 with a “Horizons” concert. The Pacific Wind Ensemble consists of 45 musicians and has been in existence since 1981. It offers educational programs, as well as a quartet of annual concerts. Orchestral musical performances like this are often promoted through poster printing, social media and other marketing tools.
The Pacific Wind Ensemble’s “As Heard on TV” concert will take place at the Evergreen Cultural Centre on the evening of February 25.
