The Rock Beats Cancer fundraising event will return to Coquitlam this October, bringing together some of Canada’s rock veterans to raise money for local charity.
The event, also branded as BC Bands Together, was founded by the late Rocket Norton and is now in its third year of raising funds. Headlining this year’s show will be 80s hitmakers Loverboy, one of the pioneering rock bands, with original members Mike Reno and Paul Dean appearing. Other acts include Barney Bentail, known for his work with his band the Legendary Hearts in the 1990s; the “Metal Queen” Lee Aaron; veteran Canadian group Chilliwack; a tribute to famed band Trooper; and many more.
All ticket revenue will go towards the Personalized OncoGenomics program of the BC Cancer Foundation, a clinical program that researches how to use genomic sequencing in diagnosing and treating people with cancer. The event has raised $600,000 over its first two years. Attendees are advised to arrive early to the show to avoid lines, and to not bring large Bags or outside food. Charity concerts like this often bring together well-known artists, and can be advertised using methods like poster printing and local radio promotion.
The 2024 edition of Rock Beats Cancer will take place on the evening of October 17 at the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam.
