Coquitlam concert to highlight classical masterpiece

Coming to Coquitlam this January is a special classical music performance which will be highlighting Bach’s famed Goldberg Variations.

The piano piece will be performed by Sarah Hagen, one of Canada’s top pianists, who has also been recognized internationally for her international performances. One of Bach’s most famous works, the composition consists of 30 pieces based around the same core concept. Hagen’s performance of the composition will be based on her acclaimed recording of the Variations released in 2021. Also known as a writer and musical comedian, Hagen will also provide a short introduction to the piece and its significance. Promotional material emphasizes the musical skill required for the performance:
“Cherished by many, the Goldberg Variations are emblematic of keyboard virtuosity, rich expression, and hardcore classical interpretation.”

The concert is part of the Evergreen Cultural Centre’s 2023-24 Music Series, which includes a wide variety of classical and traditional musical acts. Performances later in the season include a flamenco concert from Tamar Ilana & Ventanas, an appearance by folk singers James Keelaghan & Jez Lowe, and more. Concerts such as this often use methods including poster printing and radio advertisements to help attract fans of distinctive musical genres as well as a more general audience.

Sarah Hagen’s performance of the Goldberg Variations will take place on January 28 at the Evergreen Cultural Centre Studio Theatre in Coquitlam.
