Bevees, from the slang for “beverages”, will provide over 300 types of alcohol-free drinks in an environment intended to model a sophisticated bar. Drinks on offer include non-alcoholic version of beer, wine, spirits, and “mocktails”, as well as traditional juice and soda. The business also aims to appeal to drinkers, with mixers, tonics, and glasses on sale. Bevees is founded by married couple Racquel Foran and Jim O’Connor, who describe the project as one of inclusion:
“We want everyone to have easy access to the same diverse selection of beverages as those who drink alcohol. [...] Those who don't drink alcohol should be able to socialize with friends, and celebrate occasions in the same sophisticated environment as those who do.”
The beverage room features an in-store mixologist and will include a 15-foot bar, lounge, and an event room, with local art used as decoration. Local bars and event spaces often use local artists and banner printing services to help provide decor and a sense of community spirit.
The Port Coquitlam venue, described as BC’s first non-alcoholic bar, will be aiming to attract patrons from nearby areas such as Coquitlam and Vancouver with regularly scheduled tasting events.
Bevees will be opening in Port Coquitlam in mid-November.
