What's Happening in Chilliwack, BC…

The Drowsy Chaperone playing in Chilliwack

Theatre fans in Chilliwack will have probably seen printed posters around the area recently for a new play, The Drowsy Chaperone. This comedic musical will have the crowd in stitches when it is presented April 6 to 16. The venue for the play is the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

Canadians Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, both winners of Tony Awards, wrote the lyrics and music. It is based on a book written by Don McKellar and Bob Martin, who have also won Tony Awards in the past.

Director Randy Newbury said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to share this amazing show with Chilliwack. After the Guild’s success with Nunsense last year, we knew our next musical needed to be special. The Drowsy Chaperone has everything you need to be entertained – side-splitting comedy, great songs and rollicking dance numbers.”

Newbury acts as both director and choreographer. Karry Kozak, of Chilliwack, choreographed a tap number. The 12-piece orchestra is led by Chilliwack’s Paula Dewitt-Krause and Patti Lawn is the producer of the play.

Show times for The Drowsy Bachelor are at 8 p.m. April 6 – 9, as well as 8 p.m. April 13 – 16. There will be a 2 p.m. matinee shown on April 10. Ticket prices are $22.50 for seniors or students and $25.00 for general admission.

There will be an Opening Night celebration for attendees to the April 6 show, which will include a silent auction with memorabilia from the show – possibly including some of the show’s posters. There will also be hors d’oeuvres and a chance to meet members of the cast.

A Chilliwack brochure printer supplied the programs for this awesome and entertaining event.
