Chilliwack show to present classic story

The Newbury Art Concepts theatre group will be presenting a stage version of the classic horror novel Dracula in Chilliwack this October.

The stage adaptation, scripted by Susan E. Newbury, presents an exciting spin on Bram Stokers’ influential novel about the battle against a bloodthirsty vampire. The cast is made up of local talent, including Toley Smith as Vlad Dracula himself, Dennis Rackliff as vampire slayer Abraham Van Helsing, and Taya Viger as influential heroine Mina Murray. The cast will also include a chorus playing Dracula’s brides, the mystical Nosferatu, and other small roles.

The Chilliwack production will feature a full set that switches between various locations in Victorian London and Dracula’s castle in Transylvania. The show will run for 10 shows across 12 days, including two matinee shows, aiming to coincide with the Halloween season. It is recommended for adult audiences.

Poster printing is often undertaken to advertise shows like this, with the poster design for Dracula featuring the tag line “Unending Love... Unending Life”. Promotional material emphasizes the story’s darker themes:

“Audience members will enjoy this intimate, dark, immersive theatrical display chocked full of supernatural forces and special effects. Written with exciting new twists, and colourful characters, this tragic love story is designed to appeal to all the senses.”

The Chilliwack production of Dracula will take place in Rotary Hall at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on select dates from October 8 to 19.
